Video Povera dusts off their VCR to deep-dive into the underground cinema of Damon Barr & Marie-Anne Ferral, two of the UK’s most neglected filmmakers. Operating in secret during the 1990s from Northampton, the pair utilised degraded celluloid and analogue video to produce a remarkably proficient series of abstract and disquieting short films exploring sexual subcultures, societal taboos and bizarre imagery. Sold by mail order through limited videocassettes on their imprint Image 37 Productions, their oeuvre is largely unknown except to dedicated horror fanatics. We are proud to screen a full retrospective (from hard-to-find original VHS tapes!) of their seminal body of work for Scalarama Leeds 2023!
