Words with Fangs: Monsters and Mayhem Poetry Showcase

22nd October 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

💀 In the mood for a Halloween-tastic poetry and spoken word showcase?? Then welcome to Words with Fangs: Monsters and Mayhem! 💀
🦇 Five queer poets from Yorkshire and beyond will be bringing sets bursting with vampires and vices, scares and spells, and blood and bonfires – all hosted by the otherworldly goodnighttheskye and fabulous Greg Morrison.
🦇 Not only that, but we’re offering a sign-up-on-the-night sixty-second slam, so you can bring your own minute long poems to be celebrated by our amazing audience and maybe even win a prize!
🦇 Last of all, the last hour of our event will be given over to a Halloween disco, where poets and punters can meet eachother and dance the night away to a selection of queer anthems, spooky floorfillers and alternative favourites.
🕯️ HEADLINER BIOS 🕯️
Jonathan Kinsman (he/him) is a bi, trans, polyamorous poet. He is a slam champion and has published three poetry pamphlets. He recently did a full run at the Edinburgh Fringe and his debut collection The Fireman’s Daughter is out now with Broken Sleep Books.
The Hellpoet (he/they) is a queer, mixed race, biblically accurate performance poet whose unholy chapel may be found in the North-East of England. Described by TransMuted as “a ministry of trans rage”, his work is part preacher’s sermon, part jester’s privilege, crucifying the establishment with devilish wordplay and delivery sharper than a serpent’s fang. Expect the sensual, the uncanny, the macabre… and most importantly, be ready to confess, for Father is here to listen.”
Chris Cambell (he/they) is a nonbinary, Native American immigrant with ADHD. He is a Bradford based slam champion who writes poetry for international performance and publication. He wants you to fall so in love with poetry, queerness, and the oppressed that you wake up one day and change your whole dang life!
isaac e.j. (they/them) is a disabled, queer poet based in Leeds, though their origin remains a mystery. Thematically, their work turbulently bounces from ‘harrowing and disturbed’ to ‘whimsical and mystical’, which proves to always keep an audience on their toes. Meanwhile, the content of their writing can be best described as the space where left-wing politics meet personal confessions. They have appeared in a range of zines and collections, including Ergi Press, Trans Muted & Bone Down.
Ezekiel Foster-Eardley(they/he) is a deliquesced writer from the mop bucket of a vampire dive bar, living in Leeds. Their work is published in various anthologies including the 2020 Roger McGough Poetry Prize and the Bone Down Zine. Ezekiel’s subject matter ranges from existential malaise to sickly-sweet yearning.
