Queer Fear and Fermented Films Present: Alucarda

April 30 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Alucarda has lived for years as a cult whisper – passed between devotees on bootleg tapes, glimpsed in late-night television schedules, name-dropped in horror listicles. Screened in the UK the first time in 10 years, it arrives on Thursday 30th April, to a chamber dungeon near you!*

*Wharf Chambers, Leeds

Loosely based on Sheridan Le Fanu’s ‘Carmilla’, ALUCARDA hails from the golden age of Mexican horror. Packing in nudity, nunsploitation, blasphemy, Satanism and sexual hysteria aplenty, Queer Fear and Fermented Films are honoured to screen this rarely screened cult queer horror gem in the UK, with special permission from the filmmaker’s family.

Behind the high stone walls of a nineteenth-century Mexican convent, two orphaned girls meet. One arrives clutching her faith like a shield. The other is Alucarda. Together they stumble upon a Satanic ritual in the forest, when something ancient and hungry follows them back inside the convent walls.

Juan López Moctezuma’s delirious masterpiece is one of the great lost films of world horror. A fever dream of Satanic possession, religious ecstasy, and blazing transgression, it sits in the company of the finest Gothic cinema – yet for decades it has been seen by almost no one in this country. Until now…

Summon your ticket here to attend – it’s PAYF or £5 suggested.

The event also includes a secret spooky short ahead of the main feature presentation + a raffle following the film!
