Joyland (2022)

Joyland, initially banned for theatrical release in Pakistan, became the first Pakistani film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, and won the Queer Palm for best LGBTQ film. It follows Haider, who lands a job at an erotic dance theater, telling his family he is a theater manager. In actuality, he is a backup dancer and becomes infatuated with a strong-willed trans woman, Biba. Catch this groundbreaking film as it hits Wharf on the 11th Sept – certainly not one to be missed.
