Free screening of Wojnarowicz: F**k You F*ggot F**ker (2022)

July 17 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

In this film, Chris McKim rearticulates a rich archive to present a powerful documentary on artist, writer, and activist David Wojnarowicz.

McKim’s archival work begins with the film’s title – a reference to homophobic doodle which Wojnarowicz found and incorporated into a painting of the same name – and takes us through a treasure trove of tape recordings, videos, Super 8 films, and other ephemera. These fragments, articulated together, capture Wojnarowicz’s rage, wit and tenderness, as well as an entanglement of art, life and politics. In the process of portraying Wojnarowicz, McKim also presents an image of New York at the height of the AIDS crisis and a US political context that’s staged to resonate today.

Content warnings: representations of sex, drug use, homophobia, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and AIDS-related illness and death. It is free to attend this event but please consider making a donation to the sexual health charity Yorkshire MESMAC by clicking here.

Vegan food will be available to buy at the bar at from 18.00.
