CineClub Azúcar present: Teatro de guerra (Cinema of War), Lola Arias, 2018
January 26 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm
The first CineClub Azúcar – a space to watch and discuss Latin American cinema and moving-image works. We begin with Lola Aria’s Teatro de guerra.
Teatro de guerra (Theatre of War) is a delirious essay on how to represent war, performed by former enemies. Lola Arias brings a group of veterans from the Malvinas/Falkands war together, three British and three Argentinian, to discuss, rehearse and re-enact their memories 35 years after the conflict. Using a theatrical framework, they work together in pairs or in dialogue with the camera, to confront their memories, each other and the war that binds them.
The Malvinas/Falklands War lasted from April to June of 1982 and took the lives of 655 Argentinian and 255 British soldiers. It ended in Argentina’s military defeat and in territorial claims on both sides that remain contentious to this day.
Content guidance: Discussion and reenactment of war.
